Indian Energy Minister Pankaj Agarwal said that India needs to explore the importance of production-related incentive (PLI) schemes to increase renewable energy transmission capacity.
Quoting reuters.com Agarwal also added that India needs to think about how to relocate the supply chain for transmission equipment with an additional 1,650 gigawatts (GW) of global renewable energy capacity waiting to be connected to the grid.
India has launched several PLI schemes for manufacturing to reduce dependence on global supply chains and to spur domestic production.
Agarwal said at an Industry event in New Delhi that there are several constraints in India’s transmission capacity, including additional capacity for certain types of equipment, while global supply chains are under pressure due to surging demand for electricity.
India aims to increase its non-fossil power capacity to 500 GW by 2030 from around 154.5 GW currently.
India’s coal-fired power production fell for the second consecutive month in September, on an annualized basis, due to slower growth in electricity use and as solar power generation increased.
