Coal miner Stanmore on Tuesday announced that it had awarded a five year mining services contract at the South Walker Creek (SWC) mine in Queensland, to Golding Contractors.

The contract, worth A$1.6-billion, entails operating and maintaining eight fleets of heavy mining equipment to remove overburden and mine steelmaking coal.

The agreement provides employment to about 650 people, Golding parent company NRW Holdings said in a separate statement.

NRW CEO Jules Pemberton said the contract extended the successful relationship that the mining services group had with Stanmore.

“NRW’s drilling and blasting subsidiary ADB is currently working with Stanmore at SWC and Golding now renews its prior association. With the addition of the SWC mining services agreement, NRW’s order book climbs to a record A$7-billion,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Stanmore on Tuesday also announced its third-quarter production results, with run-of-mine coal output of 5.8-million tonnes, saleable output of 3.8-million tonnes and total coal sales of 3.9-million tonnes.

The strong performance was supported by mining and production records at the SWC and Poitrel mines, keeping the miner on track to meet its guidance.
